Custom built is the only way to go for desktop systems. You save money. These companies don't make any special parts that speed up your PC, they buy the same isht that you get at the store, except they buy it wholesale and then charge you whatever the hell they want for resale. That's the power of having your own business license.

All they do to make it faster is overclock and tweak some BIOS settings. But anyone can do that.

The best Computer us the one you assembled yourself.

You choose the best components for your computer and make the best out of them.

For an example you choose that you want a gaming machine

then you choos the fastest hard disk (SCSI) the best Ram and an average CPU and assemble it.

For a download computer you use the most quiet parts you can find etc etc......

So there is nothing better and cheaper than a customized computer.

OK you can get customized computers from Dell or others but they are far to expensive.

Apples are nice but not suitable for my needs.

I need a working 2000,XP or Linux OS not a good graphic OS.

The company I used to work for also did custom computers for home users on occasion. The price was not amazingly more then building it yourself, however because of the quality of parts my boss used, they were about priced the same as dell (only ASUS boards, only Intel CPU), however you could request something else, however you forfieted your labor warrenty if parts failed (if you wanted an Abit board, and it failed, he would RMA it for you...but you paid the labor, cause as my boss would say, you were warned)

Another thing is, those brand names from DELL, e-machines, use custom parts. The motherboard gets fried, and you have to buy a new one from them. You cannot just goto the PC store and buy an off the shelf MB. Same applies for RAM.

As for the other parts like sound card, video card, and HD, you can upgrade those by buying at the store.

If its for myself, its custom-built. If its for a company, its DELL, only because the warranties we had were excellent and I didn't have to spend all my time screwing with "what went wrong". IMHO Gateway is the worst. I had too many miserable experiences with them. :(

I agree... If I had all the money in the world I would prob just go for Alienware... For anybody else a Dell is a safe bet... But with limited funds and being a bit fussy I have to make my own pcs. You just cant be sure of the quality of the parts otherwise.

Instead of 2 20" flat panels' date=' save yourself the money and buy a 42" plasma.[/quote']

Thought about that, but my desk has its limitations... I can only have 2 20"s standing angled on it, a 42" plasma would be better though... I can't put it anywhere. Cramped room, you know.

the DIY custom built comps are best. that's what i do for myself and my family. you get better parts, better prices, more of what you want and need without any of the crap you dont. best way to go, hands down.
