Fenriswolf
MOD NOTE: Both The TARDIS & TARDIS Technology threads amounted to the same subject so have been merged accordingly, should save people some time posting the same things on the same subject! What exterior design is your favourite of the TARDIS, and why? For me: I think I can say that I have three favourite designs now, especially with the advent of the new series. The Tom Baker TARDIS has always appealed to me, probably because he was really my era of Dr. Who and that I have the toy they did a while ago along with Baker's Dr. Who figure. The next design would be the McGann TARDIS from the movie, which thanks to someone kindly posting a link to the Tenth Planet site and their 1/2 scale Movie TARDIS...I found their full size one. Which of course as you now know, which I really didn't...is Cushing's one :) thanks RSAntilles. Full size Movie TARDIS And now Eccleston's TARDIS, the shot in Father's Day where the Dr. and Rose walked off hand in hand towards it brought a tingle down my spine, odd that such a quaint little blue box could produce such a feeling of joy, seeing it all lit up and in one piece. So, there you go. I realise I am new here but I am hoping some of the other Whovians will join in this discussion. So thanks to Nite for the forum and thanks to you all for being great fans of sci-fi. So out of the three of them, well, the new TARDIS is now a firm favourite of mine. I just love the look of it. Antilles
That particular MOVIE Tardis is from the 1960s Cushing films, what with the St.Johns Ambulance logo on the door as the police and ambulance, and in some areas, fire service all used the call boxes! But I suppose if ya pulled the logo off itll be a McGann style Tardis :) I know what ya mean about the emotions the Tardis evokes when ya see it, especially in certain places, tucked away in corners gives me goose-bumps. As opposed to just being out in the open. I cant say I have a particualr favourite design, theres been so many. I love the one in Glasgow where I was born which is still there today! They used to have red/orange ones there too you know! And theyre solid concrete mould you know, not wooden like they made the TV versions! Fenriswolf
Heh, you're right about the McGann TARDIS and the Cushing one. I'd forgotten the Cushing TARDIS from Dalek Invasion Earth etc. But yeah, if you pull that logo off it's pretty much McGanns. Those are some classic pics there, thanks for sharing them. I know about the concrete, they could be used as lockups iirc and impromptu holding cells. I got goosbumps just looking at those Police Box pictures lol. Oh here's one from me, it's very special since it's of my own toy TARDIS taken when I was very young. I installed a flashing lamp into the Tom Baker box and took a photo with an old Polaroid Instant Camera. My old Toy
WreckGar
I've got one of the toy Dapol TARDIS's that unfold into a TARDIS interior (don't have the console, though). I think the current TARDIS exterior looks the spiffiest.
GeneralLee
All this talk about Dalek's and Tardises, had and still has me a bit confused. I hope to be more of a Dr. Who fan someday, and can join in on the discussions. I have downloaded many of the episodes lately; all the new ones, and some of the old, and maybe this weekend, will watch a bunch of them. FenWolf, thanks for helping me get somewhat up to speed on all this, via the IRC chat room, today, and thanks for the links. Maybe you should post them here as well. Fenriswolf
You should definitely watch the new series, since it won't be spoilt by watching the old stuff first. RTD has done a fantastic job of making the Dr. his own and the team of writers he's assembled write some really good stuff. Some of it is a big tongue in cheek humour wise but it's still clever writing and great humour, typical brit humour to be honest. Mark Gattis (Ep 3) wrote a belter of an episode IMHO. Here's one of those links, which I found today: http://www.physics.mun.ca/~sps/drwho.html Then of course there's the BBCs own websites which are listed elsewhere on this site. http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/ At the bottom of those sites Lee, are a couple of links to the BBCs internet-spoof sites that they created to go along with the series - this has really taken WHO into the next dimension. WreckGar: Yep, it's my favourite especially after watching Father's Day. And finally: http://www.shillpages.com/dw/tardis.htm A great collection of WHO images. petra1989
I never noticed the outside was different either, but my favorite control room was McGann's. It finally showed us just how big the Tardis could be inside. The new one is nice too, but it reminds me of a few factories I worked in. Especially the hydralic hoses. So McGann's was far more homeier.
Migamix
that would then just flat out make the locked shape of the "blue box" a programming error, since it seems the actual design is able to change itself oh so slightly... welcome to Galif$oft, where/When do you want to go today :cyclops:
Fenriswolf
Until five minutes ago, I never noticed a difference in the TARDIS', just as I never noticed the different versions of General Lee (Dukes of Hazzard) or Starsky and Hutch's car. Oops. :p Yeah, it's something that I watched as a kid as the series evolved - so too did the actual shape of the box. It didn't vary massively but it's still one of those things that I was interested to see.

The new console room is taking me a bit to get used to, but I do like it :)

My memories fail me at the moment but did McGann's Dr. fix his? Or am I imagining it was fixed? Aghh Great comments so far people, thanks for the replies! dingding100
Nice topic, Fenriswolf. Hopefully we can convert some Trekkies to the Who-side. Don't get me wrong, I love Trek (the Shatner Years and TNG are tied in my mind) but what a great way to show how awesome the show actually was/is. As for me, it will alway be the Tom Baker Years for the TARDIS. It is just etched in my brain. Saturday afternoons...PBS (I live close to Lake Ontario so I got all of the kewl channels on the ol' antenna) watching Tom as the Doctor. The console room is kewl too, like in "The Hand of Fear", ep. 087. Also, checkout this link: http://www.gallifreyone.com/
GeneralLee
"Welcome aboard" Fenwolf. Aka Fenriswolf, it has been a pleasure. Nice to have met you. Lee <------<<< soon to be a Dr. Who fan finally
Fenriswolf
I love TOS and a lot of Trek as well, but first and foremost I am a Whovian. Thanks though for the comment dingding100, it's very nice to see. Yeah, Baker's TARDIS was great and the aux console room...such a classic moment! GeneralLee, thanks for the welcome. It's great to be here and I just love this site's forums and just chatting on IRC -- this afternoon's been a blast for me. Hopefully you'll come to really love Dr. Who as a lot of us do, some of the older episodes were cheesy and the effects were low budget but with stories like The Stones of Blood and Logopolis - well, you'll see if you watch the old series. The new series has that lovely Who feel but puts a refreshing new spin on things. Once again, it's great to be here and perhaps if I am inspired enough and feel brave enough (I can hear Soul telling me to do it now in my mind) I'll tackle a Dr. Who story and post it. :)

dingding100
Don't want to get off-topic here, but does anyone else find that the 9th Doctor seems a little more violent and not as brainy as some of the others? I might start a new thread on this...
Fenriswolf
I'll happily accept any Dr. Who conversation in the TARDIS thread, don't mind a bit of off topic. If it'll help get the series some new fans and enhance the discussion. I think the new Dr. is definitely a bit more in your face, with comments like I'll have you. And you have to admit, the northerner line was awesome from the series. I laughed at that bigtime, was fantastic! Oh and thanks for those links, saved them all...wonderful resource. I am in your debt for putting those my way!
Antilles
Like FenrisWolf, I too like Trek but Im first and foremost a Dalek hunting Tardis travelling cyberman hating Whovian! One of my most fav TARDIS webstes is this TONS of TARDIS Info & mega pics I found this from the Build A TARDIS/Dalek PDF which was upped a few months back. If anyone didnt get it or wants it I could reupload it, it was awesome, wish I had the money/space/time to build it all. Plus the history of real/tv show Tardis' is bloomin marvellous. Notice in this McGann movie shot, the TARDIS doesnt have a base so the motorcycle can go in and out, took me years to notice that! :)
Fenriswolf
I missed that Build a TARDIS/DALEK pdf..if you could re-up or send that to me. It would rock man. That shot of McGann's TARDIS, lol, yeah I wouldn't have spotted the missing base part either. Good to meet ya RSAntilles, I'm still curious about your: Do I know you? comment tho :) Edit: I love the shot of the Liberator in your sig and that other link, was ace.
