TheLunatic
The crash with the other ship was actually a life-saving measure. As the doctor explained, it was a failsafe. The TARDIS, upon impending breakup, seeks out and locks onto the nearest spacecraft. He also implied that the feature had never actually worked before that incident. Yeah....poor black guardian....if he hadn't told Turlough how to turn the failsafe back on...it wouldn't have worked ;) L

GorunNova
I know the audios are not cannonical....but the writers thereof DO think of the orignal series as being so....so if Colin had a pool for frobisher to hunt in, it mustn't have been part of the ballast he dropped. It's a pity they're not... the Daleks, the Eighth Doctor, and several of the companions really shine in them ^^'
roach
A few more points: -- Opening the doors during remareialization causes shrinkage (Planet of Giants) -- The TARDIS is self-aware, not able to communicate directly, but able to influence the emotions of those aboard (Inside the Spaceship) -- The latest known model is the Type 102 (in the books/audio plays), which is a fully self-aware, telepathic type. A type 102, named Compassion, joined the Doctor for a while.
Fenriswolf
I never really kept up with the novels, have a lot of the Tom Baker ones and some of the Davidson, but when they started to add in things like Compassion, I kind of waned in interest. dingding100
I have a question about the TARDIS. In "Real Time", the Cybermen astually picked up the TARDIS to carry it back in to the pyramid. Is this possible?
coolcat13
yes and not only the Cybermen but the master had it thrown down a shaft . the outside is a mere box it is the inside that is nearly indestructable
TheLunatic
I have a question about the TARDIS. In "Real Time", the Cybermen astually picked up the TARDIS to carry it back in to the pyramid. Is this possible? While, it is heavy...it isn't immovable....it did fall off a cliff in some episode...or get flown through time on a concorde. Or cleared out of the way from the scoop of a miner.... Though there was an episode with Adric (I think) where they did give the mass of the TARDIS....as 10x10^3 kg. 10 metric tons, hmmm... Conceptually, I suppose as part of its ability to blend into its surroundings...it has some kind of ability to adjust its weight (force) on its surroundings....so it can be light or heavy. Actually, I thought there was an episode where the Doctor makes an adjustment to the weight of the TARDIS... Now, Cybermen...well...they probably have the strength to lift something that weigh 10 tons. L
coolcat13
good point on the Adric thing I think that was in Logopolis . not sure but ...
Fenriswolf
Remember in Rose the Nestene captured the TARDIS and in the End of the World the TARDIS was moved as well by the little blue guys.

Edit: Sorry, but the only infirmities on board were the first doctor and Chameleon... ;)
Fenriswolf
I have always thought there was a control somewhere on that thing to increase the ship's external mass as well as altering the internal mass. If there isn't there should be :)
dingding100
lol Imagine this; The Doctor parks the TARDIS, increases internal mass to that of a small star. Brilliant! It acts as a parking boot, so that the little nasties can't just pick it up and trot off with it.
GorunNova
A small star? "Ummm, Doctor... why did the TARDIS just sink to the core of the Earth?"
Fenriswolf
Oh talking of odd TARDIS tech, check out the Scream of the Shalka webcast for something quite nifty.

Fenriswolf
Yep, one of my favourite bookmarked sites that. Very useful for the old TARDIS :)
dingding100
According to the above site: "In addition, the ship's exterior mass is in general equal to the mass of the object being modelled, so no matter what load the TARDIS is transporting, the outside of the ship will still have the same mass as usual." http://www.tardis.ed.ac.uk/~abr/drwho/tardis/type40/node4.html So, I guess that it wouldn't sink, GorunNova. I'm still reading through this site, but I missed if all of this stuff is acurate or not.
GorunNova
It WOULD sink if what you were saying was the case, which was the ability to make the exterior have a huge mass.
