Is there going to be nothing new from Paramount trek-wise?

Has the whole franchise come to a close? I'd love there to always be some ST series of some description on air (or on this site), but it doesn't look like that's going to happen now.

And the worst thing is, I'll be nearly 60 by the time a new series comes out if the gap between TOS and TNG is anything to go by. There's only so many times I can watch the re-runs :(

I certainly hope not (death of scifi/startrek) but as usual, it seems for now all there is interest in is how much returns (10x and up) they can squeeze out of a show / film, not the cutural value or just being satisfied that something goes even with a slight profit, which tells me, as fans we've got to help something happen or we will probably not see too much fancy SCIFI around for a while.

geeeeeeeee star trek finishes and everyone seems to think that thats is for sci-fi, there more sci-fi out there apart from star trek, like some of has said its needs a rest. People got bored with it simple as that. If we have to wait afew years for it to reappear then so be it

It's to much money for them to just throw away. Sure, Enterprise didn't so so well in that area, but they may get the idea, and when the times comes to make a new series they'll have a good scriptwriter working on it from the beginning. Till then, watch SG-1, that's going to be on for a looong time.

:)

It seems like they're pretty worried about the way things have panned out over their way as well. They're remaining corporately upbeat about it though, instead pimping DVD sales and the 700 episode barrier.

Still though, I can't see another Trek being developed for quite a while, not for another 10 years at least. It's not where the money is, and that counts for a lot more than a bunch of hardcore fans. Paramount should sell the license to a network who will take care of it. The only problem being, a network may well do it to death.

Anybody up for a lower budget ST soap opera?

Personally I think that the last series has ruined StarTrek for quite a while. The actors were all off. The whole series just didn't fit into what people used to expect of StarTrek. The characters were wrong and the actors played them even more wrong. The basic idea of the series was pretty good, but the implementation certainly was not. I think they missed the guidance of Roddenberry who always used to be the main 'StarTrek-factor'. Once they realise that their mistakes can be corrected, they will produce another show. Hopefully with better actors at that time.

haha lose of Star Trek does not equal loss of sci-fi.

In fact, the FACT that there is now SO MUCH sci-fi out there, is probably 1 factor in Star Trek being booted.

Now it has (had, since it isnow gone) competition from Battlestar Galactica, Stargate Sg-1, Stargate Atlantis, etc,and newer show yet to air.

Before, it used to be practically the only good sci-fi tv on. Now we have all the others, and Star Trek was not the best of them. We even have the sci-fi channel now.

Death of Sci-Fi ?!?! you kidding me?

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is doing super well at the box office now.

  • 2 weeks later...

i agree. i havent made any attempt to watch enterprise. the theme tune put me off.

all it says to me is ...

"look, i went too far mommy"

hope they havent ruined it for future possibilities.

also though, how many series can say they ran this long non stop. (with the possible exception of baywatch-understandably. with the volume off-actually, no it sucks. try a cure for baywatch (grown ups only)) which has spun off and off.

but i cant think of anything apart from soaps so it was grreat while it lasted

Same here, that opening tune is terrrible, and I don't know a single person who actually likes it. Was anyone even consulted when they made the decision to run with that Michael Bolton-ish theme song? I mean, It's just so glaringly aweful.

But as far as the series is concerned, Enterprise, I'm sad to see it ago. I really started to dig it. I think once you get over the unfamilarity of the characters, they start to grow on you. Hopefully something will come soon to take it's place, in the meantime: "Keep yer shirt on luuutennaint"

Dont worry. There will be some trek show next year.

It will be another ship and this time it will be much much more exciting with species 8472, dominion, borg, romulans, klingons souped up along with some new dreadful species somewhere.

So far we have had shows about the alpha quadrant (TOS, enterprise, TNG), gama quadrant (DS9) and delta quadrant (Voyager). What about a show about the darn beta quadrant..... or did i miss it somewhere??
