Hi, new here. :) Enjoying reading all these great threads and nice to meet everyone !!

Sylvester Mccoy was allways "my" doctor, his last two seasons were the only ones I saw on transmission (was 4 when I first saw him) till the tv movie and 2005 series, and I followed his New Adventures books through the 90's :) Season 26 will allways be the Best in my opinion. Favourite story is "Curse of fenric". I relate to his doctor more than the others, I dig the "more than just another Time Lord" thing, he came across as a really ancient and powerfull character in my opinion. I didnt like his first season though, but I blame the writers for that. He's very entertaining in person too :) My other favourites are Troughton, Mcgann and Davison.

I think they were ALL great though, and have all done a brilliant job and I cant wait to see Tennant, I think he's going to be great!

I originally discovered Dr. Who during the Pertwee era and followed the series since then.

At the time, it was playing on TV Ontario and those old enough to remember, might also remember that before and after each show there was a short bit with author Judith Merrill entitled "The Un-Doctor".

It featured her talking about the episodes, what was coming up (like when the regeneration happened in Planet of Spiders) etc..

She often would go and interview authors such as Ray Bradbury, Harlan Ellisson or Theodore Sturgeon or poke fun at this weeks Dr. Who plot.

My vote would go to: Most of the doctors are my favorite

Hartnell: Favorite bits of his has to be when he conducts a medical examination of Ian in 3 seconds or when he tries to kill an innocent man slowing down the group with a rock (luckily, he's stopped from doing it).

Throughton: Perhaps the only Doctor to actually fear every monster/alien he encountered. Favorite bits include the ad-libs he and jamie have in many episodes (like the time they hold hands in Tomb of the Cybermen)

Pertwee: The only doctor to play the role as seriously as possible (although he did have bits of comedy in some episodes such as when he gets attacked on metabilis 3 in The Green Death).

It's also hard to imagine anyone else going toe to toe with Roger Delgado.

Baker: Absolutely mad and absolutely brilliant at the same time. City of Death is still one of my all-time favorite episodes and Leela one of my favorite companions.

Davison: Hard to follow 7 years of Tom baker, but i think he pulled it off. The interaction he had with Tegan, Thurlow trying to kill him, Adric who died and Nissa as his equal intellectually (at least she didn't scream every episode) gave him some of the most interesting companions.

Colin Baker: if the doctor was to be portrayed as a superior intellect, then he was perfectly cast in the role. He also didn't shy away from picking up guns and shooting cybermen. he never really got a fair chance considering everything that was against the show at the time, not to mention his costume.

McCoy: I first discovered he had the role when I arrived in the UK and one day, turned the Tv on and it was Dr. Who. The intro sequence was different and I was so happy... then I saw who the Doctor was: "it's that guy from Vision ON !!" oh noooooooooo and then came the biggest shock: The Doctor was fighting "The Candy Man"

At that point I was depressed and thought the series was over.

Luckily, there was a darker season with rememberance of the daleks, curse of Fenrick, etc.. and luckily the show was moving away from the teletubies crowd and into more adult material. BOY, that was a close one.

Since then, my appreciation for him has grown.

McGann: I have listened to only 1 audio (neverland) and it was quite good. So I am giving him the benefit of the doubt. he must, for me, publicly denounced the crappy movie he was in to gain more respect.

Eccleston: Don't like the way he acts like a buffoon and says FANTASTIC every 3rd line (even in real life interviews). Don't like his portrayal of the doctor, didn't like his costume, didn't like his attitude, didn't like his wooden acting, didn't like his accent.

For me, he's the worst Doctor so far and I hope future stories will erase him completely from the timeline (or do something where he didn't exist at all).

I liked him in that second coming jesus movie of the week, but as the doctor, he was (in my opinion) pathetically bad.

Tennant: I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. At least his new costume is was better. i hope his acting is better than the previous doctor.

Bottom line: Doctors 1-7 definately + 8 (ok) + 10 (maybe)

To each his own :D

A friend drew that up for me. He did Delgado as well. I'm a writer not an artist, so I have an artist for a friend. It works out well or at least it used to, when we used to make sure we were each working on something.

Twenty Eight people voted for christopher Eccelston' date=' but I wonder if this because he is the current Doctor (well at least until Xmas anyway) - will he quickly be forgotten inthe wake of David Tennant?[/quote']

I can't believe he's ahead of Pertwee. I thought it would be Baker, Pertwee, and then a bunch of runner ups.

Anyway, I like Eccelston but think he's a pale carbon copy of Baker and since Pertwee in my mind was close to Baker (and sometimes even better), I wonder how he doesn't rate higher than Eccelston. Anyway, that's poles for ya. The outcome is usually not what you expect due to a hidden demographic.
