GorunNova
Great isn't it. A true world flamewar :) We had to get silly, people were starting to lose their minds and declare ST science real and stuff. LOL And I'm still waiting on those answers to my trek questions. Hear, hear! Darn, I lost my keys in the closet... *pulls out his handy dandy tachyon beam emitter to hunt them down* (... hey, they solve many of the problems in TNG, so why not here? ^^)

GeneralLee
This topic has gotten very complicated - a war spanning 12 pages over which is best' date=' and now we are dragging in other things like 'shadows' and Star Wars.[/quote'] Haha, yea, I think maybe a few of us just wanted to mix it up a bit, and let it get off topic for a short while, add some humor, and possibly divert or snuff out any small flames that may have erupted. Then again, maybe it's all pointless.... I just dunno...
Fenriswolf
The Shadows would land, play a mean guitar solo and then depart...Oh wait, you mean't THOSE Shadows... *hides behind the sofa*

thegoonden
my originl questions.... Oh, and no tv sci fi is accurate. explain the following.... ( well you offerred) The enterprise makes a noise as it goes by. What lights it up? why is it lit all over in planetary orbit instead of the sunward side being a blazing white and the leeward being pitch black. the beams of the projected energy weapons used are visible in clean air an in a vacum. How did the USS enterprise ncc1701 under james t kirk reach all those planet in 5 years when most of those mentioned would take several decades to reach at the maximum speed of a constellation(or constitution, I stopp wtching so long ago) class ship....(warp6 or warp 8 for brief periods....on the original warp scale as published in the starfleet technical manual, warp 8 is only 256C...giving a maximum distance travelled in 5 years of about 2500 lightyears) the great barrier would take several centuries to reach, not one rather dull movie ( tho I LOVED "what does god need with a starship") Answer those, and I'll get some more, you DID offer, I would not want you to make yourself appear dishonest of boastful. You want to see real Sci fi....there has been ONE example. 2001. And really, apart from that, it's ALL nonsense.
taq22
This thread was locked just a few minutes ago when I refreshed it. How did it become unlocked? And if you ask me, tho I saw some interesting points brought up in this thread, it seems to me to be a pointless and meaningless waste of ones time, since afterall, they are just TV shows. I don't know how it got locked, I created this topic and so I unlocked it.

atgxtg
A page of Hitchhiker's Guide on the "Daleks Vs. the Borg" topic... hilarious ^^ Here is what the Hitchiker"s Guide to the Galaxy has to say on the subject of who would win a interstellar war between the Daleks and the Borg....not you. If the Daleks win, YOU will still be exterminated as you are not one of them (any Dalek that doubted Dalek supremacy enough to look up the outcome in the guide would also be exterminated). If the Borg win, YOU will still be assimilated. If, by some misfortune, you find yourself in a situation where the topic is of more than academic interest, say, between a fleet of horribly beweaponed Dalek saucers and another fleet of equally beweaponed Borg cubes, spheres and other geometrically shaped interstellar craft- take what little satisfaction you have left to you. First, toss your pilot out the airlock for being so unbelievably irresponisble to have flown bwtween two opposing fleets in the first place. Then grab youself a few dozen stiff drinks. If you happen to be the aforementioned irresponible pilot, cheer up in the fact that everyone else board your ship is going to wind up exterminated--or assimilated, but with a massive hangover! taq22
Back up and running. We're still waiting on those Star Trek questions to be answered, whoever it is who offered to answer them.
Fenriswolf
I doubt they will be answered :) Interesting questions though as they are. I always had one, when watching Alien. "In space no one can hear you scream? How come we can hear a starfighter go neEeeeOoOOW Zoom ZAP ZAP ZAP!?"

Damn - there are so many questions - will try to answer them then- - Enterprise makes noise - i think because it's engeins make a noise. - What lights it up - ....good question. - Planet reflects sunlight from sun and onto Enterprise. - Projected Energy weapons visible because the are PROJECTED energy weapons -(i think) - not sure about next one Well if god wanted a starship then he may have got them to the barrier quicker (just guessing now). well you wanted answers and there's a few
taq22
even if Enterprise did make noise from it's engines, it wouldn't be heard in space.
tinpusher
or better yet how come ships "explode" into big fireballs? There is no oxygen in space and therefore combustion is impossible.
taq22
Actually, there would be quite a bit of oxygen from the ships themselves. They are exagerated in Star Trek though.
GorunNova
1) No sound transmission in space, so no engine noise would be heard. 2) Nothing would light up the underbelly / area facing away from the sun unless it was close enough to the lit surface of a planet or moon, where it would be illuminated by the reflected light. 3) Pure energy weapons would be invisible in space... if they were plasma-based weapons, then you would see them. 4) Creative time elapse or pure ignorance of time factors. If there was some sort of external intervention pulling them there, on the other hand... or an experimental drive allowing them to go really, really fast... I don't know... I can't even -remember- that movie -_-'... I didn't like it that much. The fireballs would happen, but they would be short lived as the burning gasses would quickly diffuse beyond combustibility. It would be pretty at first, though ^_^
taq22
So how do you think this affects the Battle then? Would these flaws in Star Trek give the Daleks an edge, as they would be used to more dificult laws of the universe and time. For example, they could change time without any real damage, as there is no web of time.
